SJ 14b – Bubble Diagram of dream house

As for my dream house, I plan to build it on an even ground facing the lake with only single floor. This is because I can have a 360 degree view every morning and evening on the beautiful scenery of the lake to relax my mind so that I can get inspiration from the nature on design.

For the interior of the house, I will put in a hall with a family photo on wall, Olympic-sized swimming pool, Indoor garden, golf course, backyard as the observation deck and ballroom. The house itself will consist of 1 master bedroom, 1 guest room and 2 rooms for children. As for the roof, I will make it more Malaysian style and focuses on wind ventilation and allowance of the penetration of sunlight to save energy.

SJ 12 – Research & compile 3 buildings with 3 different concept

As for this sketch journal, I have chosen Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), School of Art, Design & Media, Nanyang Technology University, Singapore and Taipei 101 as my buildings to be drawn.

Borneo Convention Centre Kuching

BCCK is the first dedicated convention and exhibition centre in Borneo located on a 6 hectare riverfront site in the city of Kuching. BCCK itself includes 1,500 delegates in plenary, a 2,000 capacity banquet hall and 14 breakout meetings rooms. The largest pillar free exhibition space is 2,500 square metres. The convention centre aims to organise and attract local and international concerts, events, exhibitions and conventions to Sarawak. Besides the roof structure which derives from the ‘Ririk’ leaf, BCCK is designed on an east-west access to mitigate the effects of solar gain. It is also oriented to face Mecca and incorporates a Muslim prayer room.

  Nanyang Technology School,SG

This new building finish construction in year 2006 and it is designed by David Chipperfield Architects. This 5 story facility sweeps a wooded corner of the campus with an organic, vegetated form that blends landscape and structure, nature and high-tech and symbolizes the creativity it houses. As mentioned above, the building houses the School of Art, Design and Media. Despite the green roof mentioned, the glass façade of the building reduces solar gain and heat load and allows the benefits of natural views and daylight into the internal. Besides, it also provides visual exchange between internal and external. As in conclusion, this amazing green structure does a lot in saving the environment with its green roof and glass facade.

Taipei 101

Taipei was once the world tallest building from year 2006 – 2010. The architects involved in designing this skyscraper is C.Y.Lee & partners. As you can see, the tower features a series of eight segments of eight floors each. As in Chinese-speaking cultures, the number eight is associated with prosperity, luck and good fortune. Besides, the repeated segments possesses the rhythm of Asian pagoda which means a tower linking earth and sky. The tower also derives concept from a stalk of bamboo which represents an icon of growth and learning. Next, on each face of the building where the pedestal meets the tower represent coin, you can see a stack of ancient Chinese money boxes which symbolizes abundance.

SJ11 - Sketch out a presentation regarding your favorite item

As for this sketch journal, I used my ‘baby’ – handphone as the item. My handphone model is Sony Ericsson Naite. It is an eco-friendly phone as it is manufactured by using recycled materials, minimal packaging, non-toxic paints and even an electronic on-phone user-guide rather than a printed manual. Below is the brief description of it.

SJ10–Initial concept of the viewing tower

Basically, as you can see in the diagram, my concept of the viewing tower for my toy character (Mario) would be FLEXIBILITY and PLAYFULNESS. The design itself is referring to the connection of straws to build up a structure. As the straws are connected, it represents an element of flexibility and thus, it will creates alternative routes for Mario to reach the highest observation deck despite having fun in doing so. Besides, the colour proposed for the tower would be black, red and blue and there would be three different observation decks on different floor.

SJ09 – Postcard Sketch

On 29th October 2010, we, the FNBE March 2010 students were on tour to Penang to carry out project despite having vacation there. This trip had given me a chance to be exposed to the heritage of Georgetown and what i really appreciate of the place is the people’s hard work to preserve the olden days heritage and architecture so well. Honestly speaking, Penang is great place. For this sketch journal, we were instructed to sketch out 3 series of views or perspectives or items that relates back to George Town. The following sketches is my work.

Yeoh Kongsi

Yeoh Kongsi

Yeoh Kongsi or by its formal name, Har Yang Sit Teik Tong Yeoh Kongsi,( 楊氏霞陽植堂) is the clan association of Hokkien clansmen bearing the Yeoh surname. It is located at No. 3, Chulia Street, George Town.

Pinang Peranakan Mansion

Pinang Peranakan Mansion

Pinang Peranakan Mansion is the typical home of a rich Baba of a century ago is recreated to offer a glimpse of their opulent lifestyle and of their many customs and traditions. There are over 1,000 pieces of antiques and collectibles of the era on display in this Baba-Nyonya museum.

Komtar & the nearby

Komtar

KOMTAR (Kompleks Tun Abdul Razak) is the iconic landmark of Penang with 65 stories, 760ft (232m) standing magnificently in the city centre of Georgetown. The tower is a multipurpose complex consisting of retail outlets, transportation hub and administrative offices for the Penang State Government.

SJ 08–Proposed Location for the viewing tower

After doing research on my site and my characteristics of my toy tower, i have come out with an ideal location for it. Basically, the tower will be located somewhere with a slightly slope facing the lake. Placing the tower besides the lake allow Mario to have a sightseeing on the beautiful scenery of the lake. Next consideration of placing the tower is that distance from the lake because the water level of the lake might increase when it is raining. Therefore, i will place it at least 50 cm form the water.

SJ 07–3 Ideas of Viewing Tower

The following three diagrams are my initial ideas of the viewing tower for my toy character, Mario. Basically, the tower would be located somewhere on the ground with leaves or soil within my site.
